Title: Selling Department Manager


To achieve the Anthropologie mission of creating an ‘unimagined store experience’ by developing a store culture that fosters creativity, and inspires both the store team and the customer.  To manage all aspects of selling by driving store sales and delivering excellent service, through motivation and management of the selling team.

Experience Requirements:

Experience in a management role, working in a fast-paced and customer focussed retail environment

Possess a customer centric approach to sales and training

Ability to positively impact results in sales

Proven record of managing, motivating and developing a team of talented individuals

Can demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities and implement creative solutions

An appreciation and understanding of the Anthropologie culture and its appeal in the market

Job Skills


Manage the training and development of all new and existing associates to meet the Company’s service expectation

Manage performance development of the selling team (Performance Appraisals, Individual Development Plans, Coaching, Counselling and Disciplinary actions) for a productive, inspired and successful team

Build and maintain strong relationships with peers; working collaboratively toward common goals

Participate in staff recruitment and hiring

Uphold Company standards and act as a mentor, teacher and positive role model to others

Leadership and Communication:

Lead by example and inspire a shared vision by communicating store and Company goals

Possess strong communication skills in both written and verbal form

Utilise sales reports to track, analyse and communicate key performance results

Create entrepreneurial selling strategies to maximise sales and achieve store and Company goals

Challenge and motivate the selling team to achieve these goals and deliver an unimagined level of service via product knowledge trainings, fit sessions, sales competitions, personal shopping and in-store events

Conduct regular touch-bases with the selling team as well as the Operations Manager and Merchandisers to foster a shared store vision

Managing the Environment:

Manage the shop floor to achieve a high level of service and ensure a positive and upbeat store environment for customers and staff alike

Exhibit excellent floor presence by leading by example and training and coaching the associates on service, standards, product knowledge and time management

Be the ultimate brand ambassador: provide the highest level of service and aesthetic representation

Ensure the selling team is leading by example; seeking out personal shopping opportunities, building on-going relationships with customers, and embodying the Anthropologie aesthetic

Drive Anthro Programme sign ups by ensuring all staff are knowledgeable and are passionately offering the benefits to customers


Perform weekly walkthroughs and touch-bases with the Store Manager to discuss, analyse, and plan department initiatives

Perform all store-level operational procedures accurately and in a timely fashion, in accordance with all Company policies and procedures

Possess strong organisational skills and have the ability to plan, organise and execute projects by priority with a commercial and customer centric mindset

Assist in upholding Company Health & Safety procedures at all times to protect employees and customers against accidents and incidents

Merchandising and Commercial Awareness:

Participate in merchant days with the visual team to develop merchandising skills,  standards and commercial awareness

Utilise knowledge of customer shopping trends and store business drivers to affectively participate in weekly floor assessments and organise department focuses

Stay abreast of current and local trends and have a sound knowledge of the store’s customer profile

Develop and maintain business relationships within the community to host brand building and profitable events
